Cough that Won't go Away

Have any of you or anyone in your family had a cough that Won't go away, and it's been nearly a month? A wet cough that goes and goes and makes you feel like you're going to suffocate. I'm so sore and exhausted from coughing. I just finished my antibiotic. Maybe I need to get it refilled. I'm going back to the Dr today. It's keeping the whole house awake.

My daughter has, she's coughed so hard she vomited and says she's popped out a rib. I believe she's been on three rounds of different antibiotics, prednisone, and some kind of throat numbing cough syrup, in addition to Mucinex and DayQuil/NyQuil, depending. I don't know how many times she's been to the doctor, at least three that I know of.

She lives about 600 miles away, so I haven't seen her, just heard her over the phone.

Are any of you vaping? or have you ever? I was one of the first cases (from vaping) of double all lobes pneumonia years ago before it all hit the news; I now know, in hindsight, it was from the vaping. I was in the hospital for 10 days with both lungs all lobes filled and no antibiotic would kill it. They put dozens of bags of antibiotics in me for 10 days. I coughed for a month before I was admitted. I broke 3 ribs from coughing so hard. I never knew a person could cough that hard !
I was put in a drug induced coma because the pulmonologist (sp) didn't want me to cough so a rib wouldn't puncture my lung. I do not remember a single day but my pulmonologist said I was very lucky to be alive. He said, "you're a very very lucky girl beebz".
very very very scary stuff
A bronchitis cough could go on for months. I highly recommend RobotussinDM. I love that stuff.
I sure hope you feel better. Steroids, antibiotics liquids liquids and keeping in touch with your family Dr. These days our flu seasons are becoming more and more deadly overnight ! Be well, God Bless, God speed ! Much love - ~beebz

Holy cow!
I was just considering posting almost this exact thing.
I got a cold from hexx two weeks ago.
New Year’s Eve.
We were flying in from out of town. I do not remember the flight...even the landing...at all.
H I d e o u s
Fever went up to 103.
Horrible. Had trouble getting the fever down.
Dr gave me z pac. Did not help. Had to do Tylenol and Motrin. High dosages.
I got a liquid cough syrup with codeine from doctor. I only used it one night because I felt if I didn’t get some sleep I would die.
I’m using mucinex mostly now.
I threw up yesterday from coughing.
I’m soooo tired.
No more fever. Cough is better. BUT...I’m exhausted.
What the heck is this????
I’m going to do Niquil tonight.
I have to nap a lot. BAD fatigue. Super slow progress. What the heck is this?? What might help? Thanks.
I was tested for flu and pneumonia. No to both. But omg. It’s kind like a little of both. At this pace I think it will be awhile longer. I’m soooo fed up.

Please go to the Dr, again and again. I heard this flu season is deadly. I know they say that every season but the numbers don't lie. 32 children are dead already and there are several strains and folks getting the flu more than once; a different strain every time. Last year people were taking ill and dropping dead by the next morning.
Keep in touch with the Dr because one day your lungs can be crystal clear on an x-ray and the next they can be full and deadly.
Nothing was working for me, I did an entire inhaler in one day just to stay alive. I also have my own nebulizer and ended up on oxygen. Now, I am on nothing, not even daily maintenance and I am a smoker.
Be careful please.....

I firgot...I have an inhaler. I was using it a lot at the beginning. I might call the Dr again. I was tested for the flu and they said it wasn’t the flu. But it’s very bad.

My husband was furious and very blaming because my x-ray just prior to my admittance was crystal clear less than a week it was both lungs all lobes. Like I said; stay on top of this please !

Crayola...I found the Aubuterol inhaler helpful. I only use it rarely now. But I’m glad I have it.

I also tend to feel better when I drink a lot of water.

I might have to take a little prednisone. I hope not.

I might try the Ribitissin DM.

It’s extraordinarily stubborn. Lingering. Tiring.

I am sorry that you are all so sick. Honestly, it really sounds like the first year that Hubby got pneumonia. Albuterol is a big help with this.

Ask the doctor for Tesselon Pearls. They are a newish cough suppressant that works quite well. They are tiny clear liquid filled gelcaps. Also use a humidifier (make sure it is cleaned properly to prevent mold growth) or a pot of water simmering on the stove.

For an all natural cough syrup, mix equal parts honey, lemon juice and whiskey. Stir in ginger, cinnamon and if desired, cayenne pepper. I start with 2 TBSP of the liquid parts, 1/2 tsp ginger, cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne if I am using it. It really seems to help, plus it is a help with any nausea. You just take 1 TBSP of the mix, either by itself or in tea or hot water.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sorry you all are going through it also.

Tomorrow I am having a chest X-Ray to rule out pneumonia, which should have already been done in my opinion. Like you said, the fatigue is overwhelming and the rib pain from coughing is bad. I just keep getting worse and worse. Nothing touches this. Tomorrow will be the fourth time to see the doctor. I started the second antibiotic yesterday. The Albuterol inhaler helps for only five minutes. Tesellon Perles make me itch. Mucinex, Robutussin, and all the over the counter cough syrup have no affect. I also tried herbal remedies and essential oils. I'm keeping the whole house awake! The doctor said he can only prescribe codeine cough syrup once because of the new laws. It really didn't help that much. Promethazine cough syrup had no effect.

I'll keep all of you in my prayers. I hope each of us sleeps peacefully.

I’m a little better. It’s like 15 days. Still coughing and still with fatigue. But at least I can get out of the house. I’m at 40-50 percent now. I did three things today, and then slept 3-4 hours. I have planned a more normal week next week. I’m sleeping half way decently at night.i sleep with my head elevated. Improvements are still tiny, but more consistent now.i estimate this thing is going to take a good three weeks , maybe a little more at this rate...to go away. Previously, I had days with no improvement. I’m doing better. But soooo slow. I would probably go back to the Dr if I had no improvement.

Crayola: Years ago when my kids were young I was working part time and had this terrible cough - when I started coughing I couldn't stop . It was embarrassing being around people practically choking. I finally went to the doctor and he took an x-ray for pneumonia but thankfully it wasn't that but it was Bronchitis - the strong antibiotics cleared it up immediately.

My neighbor is 86 and has been coughing for more than a month. I check on her and she says she feels much better but cannot get rid of the cough. She has been on antibiotics, Prednisone, cough syrup etc. Don't know what it is being related to or caused by but it is bad.
I had it last year. Lasted months. Took everything I was told to by the doctor.
I hope you get better soon.

Peace and Love

100% better than I was but not at 100% yet
My boss had a cough like that and found out it was from his high blood pressure medication. They changed medication and now no cough! Sounds strange doesn't it?

OK Y'all,
I'm from the South and the women in my family are nuts, but here is their formula (it has worked for various illnesses):

#1) Make a "Hot Tottie" (some say Toddy) pronounced Todd-E. Ingredients Hot Tea, two teaspoons of honey, fresh lemon juice and a shot of whiskey ( I do 1/2 because whiskey is gross). Sip 1/2 cup of tea slowly. any kind will do but my personal fave id celestial seasonings "tension tamer". it contains cat nip, so you get a tiny boost of HELLO!I don't use sleepy time because it keeps me up all night. You can do this as often as needed. The honey coats the throat to help with coughing, We buy local honey it has a natural antibiotics/antifungal qualities, good for gut health and boosting immunity. Do not give it to young children.

#2) Take a quick hot shower to remove your cooties. Sleep with hair in a towel, hair dryer is gonna make you cough more.

#3) Put Vicks vapor rub on your chest and the bottom of your feet and wear socks overnight. I have no idea why, just trust the process. LOL

#4) Put a humidifier in the room but not beside you.

#5) Homemade chicken soup. Have someone serve it to you in bed, have the other 1/2 of your hot tottie.

If it doesn't work, you can cyber punch me in the face.

Obviously do what the doctor tell you, this is just something additional you can do.

P.S. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. Hope y'all feel better soon. I'm saying a little prayer.

Chicken soup and tea has been helpful.i might get some honey today.

I might try your drink.

It’s been three weeks and I’m finally fairly good. The fatigue is better. I still have a little cough. Sometimes a wet cough that is hard to control. I was at a public place the other day and had a coughing fit and had to run to my car for cough drops. I guess that’s going to take another week or so. But I’m sleeping much better. It’s been heck. Prolonged/stubborn/ powerful and draining.

The fourth dr. Said this could go on three more weeks!
I don't know if you're on any blood pressure medications but I was for a short time. They told me if I developed a cough to call them - that meant that my blood pressure was too low or some similar explanation.

Coughing is a side effect of certain blood pressure medications. I was on Lisinopril for a brief time a couple of years ago and developed a cough that lasted for weeks and would just not quit! Thinking it was allergies or some other issue I went to an ear nose, throat specialist, had a scope put down my throat (through the nose, yuk!) and she asked me if I had been on any new medications recently. My answer was no, I forgot that this one had been added a few months prior. After realizing this and checking my blood pressure to see if it had normalized, I stopped taking the drug and within a week my cough had stopped. Since then my blood pressure has remained normal. My rise in blood pressure was episodic in nature and came at a particularly rough time while raising my son.
