Macular Degeneration

Apparently I have this. Any experiences? I am not thrilled but want to know how to make the best of it. Have not seen a retinal specialist yet as this diagnosis happened at an emergency ophamology appointment Friday and he has to refer me. Stuff I read on the internet are not encouraging. Yes, I know. The internet is not the best place for information.

Busy, I don't know anything about this, but just wanted to say I'm sorry this is happening. I hope there is a treatment that will work for you.

Busy, I’m sorry you are experiencing this. I know little about it except that my friend’s mom has it.

I have had issues with a torn retina previously and I know what to look for now, ie. unusual looking “floaters,” flashes, etc. Can you say what the symptoms are or what to look for with respect to macular degeneration? I know you will seek out good medical care and I hope it can be treated easily. Hugs

I was told I had the early stages of macular degeneration, and to take Preservision AREDS 2 vitamins. This was several years ago, and my last appointment with the retina specialist showed it had cleared up. Don't know if I was misdiagnosed at the beginning or if the vitamins and wearing sunglasses healed it, but I'm just happy to know I don't have it.

I’m so sorry.
This is so ???
I have a retina priblem in one eye.
One doctor thought it was Mac Deg. They look similar In certain ways vía X-rays.
It’s only in one eye, so I rely on my other eye significantly.
Be sure to get a fantastic retina specialist. This is sooo weird. I was just gathering names in my new community to see one here. Oh…I see you found it it’s something else. This is what happened to me …although a different diagnosis. Just make sure you get to a great doctor and go regularly. Consider a second opinion if a procedure is suggested. And I too have heard good things about those vitamins in many cases. Good luck.

This can't be fixed by anything except surgery. And many don't need surgery. But if it starts to affect your life that's when surgery is suggested.
In my case, I can't drive at all. The white line on the street keeps swaying back and forth and looks wavy so I literally can't tell where the road really is. I almost had an accident but I was in the middle of nowhere so if I had pulled over for help, I could not have explained where I was. It was just trees. My better eye was not enough to help me see well. I slowed way down and made it. The sun bothered me too.
I already had a good eye exam but he was an ophamologist only, not a retinal specialist. I see one Monday. I hope to have surgery as I see wavy lines from that eye and can't drive at all. Also I can't judge depth perception and even walking is not clear. I almost walk into walls!
I now know others who had a macular pucker and surgery. I found them after I posted here.
Thanks for all the advice and caring.
