Good article. Even though my son was older before we started medications (15), I still worry about the long-term effects they might have on him. Unfortunately, in his case we felt like it was either try medications, or he would end up in jail (not just my opinion, but two therapists and one psychologist said the same thing). Until they get further along in their research, I guess we'll all have to weigh quality of life vs. possible side effects and long-term damage. I agree with the mom quoted in the article--at least with these medications my son has a chance at a life right now--without them, he didn't.
