 This is the FIRST post that ever made me feel O L D! Good Grief.
When I was growing up we sang "41 Bottles of Beer On The Wall" and
"She'll be comin round the mountain when she comes".

Teen years were Johnny Mathis (omg...what a voice to make out to!)
and a bunch of others. The Beatles were "in" when I had two babies and
my Ex and I used to dance at the Playboy Club to the "Peppermint Twist".

Ah........anchient history. DDD

DDD, that gave me the giggles! :D When I was in high school, I knew a few girls who ended up pregnant because some guy had a Johnny Mathis album! Johnny Mathis albums were almost like a prehistoric date rape drug!!

I, too, have waaaay too many to list. We went through all these 'phases'. Back in high school (pre-Beatles) we listened to a lot of R&B, then the Beatles happened and the Rolling Stones and the Who, etc. I still love the Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder. My first ex was a singer (no one you would have heard of but he was very good) and they got into all the stuff with intricate harmonies. We were all in to Simon and Garfunkle and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Then we were all listening to the ones like Janis Joplin and Hendrix and The Doors and groups like Cream. I am still the worlds biggest Eric Clapton fan ... and Joe Cocker. I still listen to all that stuff when I get half a chance.

And now, in my decrepid old age ;) I listen to a lot of classical stuff (Bach fanatic here!) and I have tons of Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman CDs. On my drive to work and back, I alternate these with The Doors. And Garth Brooks, when I'm in the mood!

When I was little...I liked Crocodile Rock, and another song that went "these are a few of my favorite things..." oh and another one, my daddy used to sing went "trailers for sale or rent..rooms to rent 50 cents"...is that King of the Road?
When I was preadolesent, I LOVED Blondie. I would dress up in my sisters clothes and jump out (scare the bejesus out of my parents) and start singing "call me..on the line...you can call me call me anytime".
And as a teen I loved all 80s pop music...too many to name

Tiredmommy, you`ve put together a playlist of some of my favourite songs ever.

Incidentally, that Pursuit of Happiness video you posted was filmed smack in the middle of my old stomping grounds. The dude dancing around in the background behind the band was a local `character` who wasn`t hired by the band or anything. He just inserted himself into the shoot.

The neighbourhood has since been `gentrified` and is very different. Sigh...

tinamarie... You reminded me of my two favorite songs as a kid. Jimmy Buffett - "Chanson Pour les Petits Enfants" - which incidentally is on my MP3 now - and Dr Hook's "You Make My Pants Want To Get Up And Dance" - which I now know why my father was so embarrassed when I would sing it in public.

They're coming to take me away, haha....

You know the first time I EVER heard that song was in the middle of the night after DEX walked out. I was absolutely certain I had totally lost it at that point, and first thing the next morning, called a friend to google it to see if it was a real song.

Loved it since, tho.

Oh, wow -- hard question. I have always liked such a variety of music, and music was big in our family growing up, as well as since I met husband (before we dated, we hung out as friends; we would sit and quiz each other on music trivia). Two songs that come to mind right off the bat: Lean on Me by Bill Withers and You've Got a Friend by Carole King. I was a sucker for sappy music but I also liked rock and, yes, even some disco back in the day. As a matter of fact, daughter et al recently surprised husband and I with tickets for an Aerosmith and ZZ Top concert in June (go figure, lol) and I am quite excited about going/nostalgia takes over. I haven't been to a concert since (I think) 1981, so I am out of the loop, and I said to husband, "There will probably be a lot of other old people there, doncha' think?"

LOL Maril...

I went to a Marshal Tucker concert back in the 70's when they were in their hay day. Well a few years ago, I saw online that they were going to be playing at a local fair and I thought...oh wow! I wanna take Tony to see them cause he had never been to a "rock" concert. Well...let me just say that good old Marshall Tucker had aged...lol. I can see why they were playing the fair circuit. Most bands we see on the fair circuit are quite good but these guys were definitely past their prime. They were drunk and made up for good by being loud...lol.

But I can say...I have seen Marshal Tucker twice...once in the 70's and once in the mid 2000's. So what...30 years apart probably?

Dammit Janet: It is a big reminder to me just how old I am getting when I see that some of these "old stars" from my young years are still touring, lol (the Rolling Stones come to mind...)

Well, it is cool that the MT band is still touring and that you got to see them again 30 years later. Time really flies, doesn't it? It seems like just yesterday I was 18 (yeah, right).

Maril, I'm jealous!!! Aerosmith and ZZ Top are coming to this area too and I want to go...BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My stepmom's brother has been a roadie for 20 years. He recently quit working the road and started his own business working on concert rigging. But....work is slow coming in and as he's worked for Aerosmith before and they called to ask him to work this tour, he's going out again. We're hoping he can get tickets as the last time he was with them, he had trouble getting some.

As for my favorite song growing up....oh Lord....there's not just one. When I was little, I loved BTO's Taking Care of Business although when I sang along, I thought it was taking care of BISCUTS. (shut up STar...I SAID I was little!) Led Zepplin was a household favorite as was the Who (especially the Tommy album). Of course when I hit my teens, it was the 80's stuff. Duran Duran was da BOMB!!! Prince (I thought I was being naughty when I listened to Darling Nicky), Michael Jackson before he got really freaky, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister....omg....soooo many songs and groups!
