    Where to go from here

Thank you for the book resources. I find that reading books like yours are soothing and help me to find my own answers. So I will check them out. I had not heard about acupuncture for anxiety so will check that out also. Where do you go for that? I just recently went to a nutritionist to...

    Where to go from here

Thank you for your Reply and advice. My husband and I took the Nami course last year. It is a great resource but did not help much for our situation. As far as therapy goes, we have tried to get our son to go again and again, but to no avail. At this point, he will have to decide to go. As...

    Where to go from here

It has been a while since I posted but feel in need of advice, comfort etc. The past two or three years have been an emotional struggle for me as I try to come to terms with my son's issues and my codependent behavior. I have made strides but it is an ongoing struggle. Anyway, things seemed...

So tired of the 1 step forward, 2 steps back

Good for you. My daughter lives out of state, but yes, she has always been good about helping. My son says he was too depressed to come over. He gets in these funks plus it stresses him out to go through and get rid of his things. So I will get rid of them for him except for what I think...

So tired of the 1 step forward, 2 steps back

i have not posted in awhile. Things with my son seemed to be getting a little more on track. He stuck with a stage management job, though it was not really his thing. He is still performing at Chinese Lion Dancing shows and he has a small part in an upcoming show. The stage manager job was...

    Just need to vent

I think that I would look into counseling for the anxiety and definitely encourage him to explore new hobbies. It does not have to be sports per se but could involve some form of physical activity which is good for anxiety, like dance (hip hop maybe). Skate boarding, skiing, acting. Or music...

How often do you change the sheets?

1-2 weeks, depending on how much dog hair is on the bed!

    Stuck in a corner

All good thoughts to consider. I do see a therapist and my husband and I are always reevaluating our responses to our son and his issues. My son is making progress though very slowly. I do agree that my father-in-law is very old school which has always posed a problem with my square-pegged...

    Stuck in a corner

I think the thing that irks me so much is my father-in-law was always rough on my son. Quick to compare him to his favorite grandson, quick to pass judgement. Quick to get angry at him. So much of this is a long history too long to get into but it makes me mad and feel bad at the same time...

    Stuck in a corner

Here is my dilemma. My 24 year old son who struggles with depression, major anxiety and adhd, hasn't held a job in a year and a half due to his anxiety. He realizes that he needs to get out there but is fearful of doing it. He was on medication for anxiety and depression but stopped it...

    Adult son "doesn't need counseling".....

I know exactly how you feel. My 24 year old son has made the same decisions and is still in a state of uncertainty. He attended college for awhile, but felt it wasn't for him but he looks at himself in a bad light because of it. There has been so much emphasis on college for young people, that...

    My son is dead.

My deepest sorrow for your loss but I will leave you with a favorite part from an Emerson Lake and Palmer song. So be closer to believing though your world is torn apart for a moment changes all things and to end is but to start. May your journey be rewarded and your God lift up your heart. For...

Males have more problems as adults or do we hide the females?

Home Easy Child, not home easy child. Hate spell check.

Males have more problems as adults or do we hide the females?

I agree that some changes have been made but a good deal of positive educational programs have been scrapped due to so much emphasis on college bound expectations. Such as shop, home Easy Child, allowing students to be involved in many different activities that are not necessarily tied to academics...

Males have more problems as adults or do we hide the females?

Absolutely schools are geared towards the average, compliant child. The upper levels and lower levels are a mixed bag of services, and very lacking in the public schools except for the kids with extreme difficulties. Then schools become a babysitting service. If you want better education...

    Things are tough

I wish we could all get together and have a group hug because your posts have left me teary because I am in the same situation. My son struggles with anxiety which feeds his depression and he self medicates. We pay for an apartment because I don't know if I could handle him being on the...

Males have more problems as adults or do we hide the females?

Apple cori what you said is exactly what happened to my son. School was an awful experience for him and for me in trying to get him through.

Males have more problems as adults or do we hide the females?

I do believe that boys struggle more than girls. Having worked in special education many years, boys always outnumbered girls. I also believe schools are set up to teach to girls' temperaments. Plus the teachers are predominantly women with a woman's temperament.
