    Anger reignited...

My brother is the toughest part. I feel like I failed him. I was such a protective older brother, and then I left and things got so much worse for him. Trying to mimic my dads life, letting him into every decision. It has just broken him down that he is terrified to do what he wants. There is...

    Anger reignited...

I recently let him back in my life and it has been a disaster. I know detaching is probably best. I just know how insecure and weak he is under all of it. I feel guilty. But honestly, the second I saw my daughter and how big she smiles when she sees me, all the anger faded. I didn’t carry any...

    Anger reignited...

Tried having dinner with my dad and mom and brother. My dad made condescending comments about both our life choices. Even though we are both very successful just not mirror images of him. And since he only likes to talk about himself , he has no true interest or appreciation for what we’ve...

Is it a little different for schizophrenia though? I have an uncle with it and when he is off medications, it is nearly impossible to convince him he needs help. Plus he was notorious for stopping the medications randomly. In those cycles, kind of like bipolar, isn't some outside help often needed. Again...

Should you tell your kids about your own past substance use?

I have wondered others opinions on this for a while. I have seen it work out so many different ways. Some parents end out drinking and partying with their kids. And some kids are fine, others go down a bad road. Does it have anything to do with parental input or is it just life happening? My...

21 year old son refuses to stop smoking weed in the house.....

Sounds like he needs a swift reality check. And being out on his own would be good. Life isn't what kids see and idolize on tv. I am normally for attempting compassion and communication, but it sounds like he's walking all over you because he knows he can. Some sort of action that shows him...

    How to eliminate the anger.

I feel like I fuel it sometimes. I always point out the remarks or absurdity of the grandious stories or sudden rages...it is a horrible attitude that I should change. But I think of all the times I tried to explain...and figure at least pointing out the behavior might help it click in their...

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)/ADD daughter progressively isolating...

she lives on her own at college. It isn’t bad, but I know how it can get. The hard part is her being an adult now. Does anyone have any tips for engaging a high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) child to help keep them on a positive track? Without intruding, triggering any anger? Looking to know what was...

Older parents ... how screwed up are people under 35?

So what you are saying is the insanity will pass? I just grew up with zero biases and was so surprised in 2015 when all hell broke loose again. Suppose turning off all my absurd cable news and political radio may help...lol. We just have so much potential to thrive together as humans. It’s...

Older parents ... how screwed up are people under 35?

I just see younger couples and even my kids struggling with expectations and I think it adds to their stress. I laugh of most of the stuff too, but you have to be so careful these day. But I’m an adult, you want something better for your kids, right?
