    Isolation chamber-Special Education??

Hi Just thought I would get some moral support here. My high school age son (difficult child 1) has gotten to the point he usually gets to at this point in the school of deciding that school is too hard and just shutting down. He has pretty good supports etc, he just doesn't see why he should spend time...

    anyone used Focalin yet?

Vanderbilt prescribed it for my son. Changing him from Adderall to Focalin. Anyone else tried it yet? I know that it takes about two weeks to notice if the medications are working BUT I noticed a huge difference in his disposition the day that he didn't take the Adderall.

(I will call him Bob since this question is rather revealing). Bob is only 7 years old, nonverbal & has a severe form of autism. I never went for...

Happy Holidays to everyone. Our difficult child diagnosed ADHD with-PTSD has finally been approved for Concerta 27mg. We started taking it on Wednesday of this week. I don't see any difference yet, but we are on holiday break from school. The dosage is pretty conservative I believe the psychiatrist said he could...

    Heartbroken

I'm new here and need some help. Husband and myself greeted yesterday afternoon by 2 deputies that escorted our 10 year old son from his bus after an incident in which he lost control and started to assault a girl who was taunting him and then the bus driver. Back story-DS diag with odd/mood...

Does anyone pay for ADD/ADHD medications?

My daughter (almost 16) was prescribed vyvanse which is not covered and when I called the insurance company they said the only thing they cover is generic adderall - which I believe is straight amphetamine... We got a free 30 days on the vyvanse so will try it but see it's obscenely...

    Carving profanity into skin now

Well the rap boy is back. I am so sad to be here. I thought we were on our way up. Things were getting soooo much better. I thought I had my boy back. You may remember he was breaking things at my school as a "prank" and trespassed onto an abandoned property and was arrested, and was...

    Adderral - Ticks - Understanding - Help

My son was recently upped to 25mg Adderral XR due to increased behavior issues at school. As we are not with him most days, we have to rely on the observations of others to make sure there are no adverse side effects to the medication. He is 9 and weighs 71 lbs. We went camping over Spring Break...

    Son's girlfriend's friends don't like him

difficult child has a girlfriend. She doesn't drink or do drugs or hang out with anyone who does (THATS a lot of pressure off him). She is really involved in her church. But her friends don't like him. Told her he is a jerk. I told him to prove them wrong. Be nice to all her friends, because they are...

    conduct disorder

I'm at witts end. :2sad: Don't know how long I can hold it together. Six year adopted great nephew. Nothing seems to phase him as for punishment. If they commit him I don't think there would be any regrets. Have had him since one month old. Biological mother and father have mental problems.

    She made her choice

I have given my difficult child 3 weeks since we found that she had stolen money and jewelry from us to clean up her life. I guess her time is up. I found drug evidence in her purse 2 days ago and confronted her today after husband and I had agreed on a plan. Her option was treatment through our medical...

    PS - Experience with Tenex?

DevPed wants to start wee difficult child on Tenex to slow him a bit. She thinks perhaps slowing him down will help with impulsivity? Anyone with experience? I'm willing to try, but I'll admit I'm skeptical. We go through sometimes long periods of time where he's extremely hyper, but the impulsivity...

    Police here, again

Kanga went nuts again. Neighbors called the cops. Luckily our police department seems to have had very good training on the mentally ill. They asked if we needed help. Waited until she took her medications. Told us we were "saints" for adopting her (the one time when it helps to have transracially...

    psychiatrist / new medications today

I do not like difficult child's psychiatrist. Never listens. Talks real quick and gives him a new drug and shoots him out the door. All within 10 minutes. After therapist said Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and ADHD and we discussed this and decided to treat the anxiety first, I called Friday to make an appointment. Today was the...
