insomnia from mania or hypomania?
Now that Risperdal is gone (which zonked difficult child 2 out very quickly), he's having a rough time getting to sleep. This is the second or third night in a row that he's still up at 10:30----make that 11:10pm now! He says he's excited about his play date tomorrow and...
As my almost-6-year-old is screaming downstairs, I am looking forward to our first psychiatrist appointment.
Would you mind sharing your first medication experiences for your child...how soon were medication's effects experienced and what were they?
Thank you so much!
If your difficult child is taking two stabilizers and a stimulant, here's my question(s):
1. When you added the second mood stabilizer, did you have to reduce the amount of the first mood stabilizer?
2. When you added the second mood stabilizer, did you also have to reduce the amount of stimulant...
Can someone explain/describe pressured speech to me? I have tried looking it up in different places. I am thinking it means something similiar to being forced to speak. Never mind, I finally found it.
Just wanted to post a brief update on difficult child 2 and his medication situation for anyone else wondering about how well this drug works.
He's taking 700mg Seroquel XR at bedtime, 5mg Daytrana patch in the morning (yeah, we trim it and it works just fine this way), and 400mg Seroquel XR at lunchtime.
The...
My difficult child has been off all mood stabilizers since November 08. Quite frankly, the changes I have seen are positive. She has been in a better frame of mind off medications than on. She has Daytrana patch @15 mg for her ADHD symptoms. Patch is off by 4 or 5pm daily.
So I don't know if I am making a...
Our psychiatrist is so great. I really mean it. He's totally focused on the big picture with my kids and not just the crisis-du-jour.
He told me today that he's concerned about difficult child 1's reaction to prednisone this week, and that with his family tree, we have to watch for mania. That observation...
My 6yo difficult child, is making me nuts about taking the medications. We have tried a couple since we started in late Aug (plus dosage changes), and have found Concerta 27 mg seems to be what he needs for his ADHD. The problem is he has convinced himself he can't swallow it. No matter that he HAS done it...
Hoping for a good suggestion to stop talking. I have been a Special Education teacher and consultant for almost 20 years but I am a bit stumped for an idea. Maybe I am stumped from sheer exhaustion of living with my son 24/7. I have written more BIPs(Behavior Intervention Plans) than I can even count...
In February, difficult child 2 weighed 89.5 pounds. Back then he was on Abilify 20mg and Focalin XR 60mg.
In mid-July, when he had a physical, they said he weighed 96 pounds. At the time, he had been titrating up on Depakote ER for two weeks and was at 750mg, and he had only been on 10mg...
in peoples' systems? difficult child was doing good, great with daytrana. In the last 2 days things have been awful. Very upset, wound up, tearful about tiny things, and VERY argumentative. I guess he almost got kicked out of the pool today for a disagreement with another child, and then argued with the...
OK, week 3 of no-one returning a call!!! So nice.
Anyway, K is up to 37.5mg of Lamictal once a day in the a.m. she is also taking 2.5mg Abilify bid.
She has been severely depressed, more than ever before, sitting in the a.m. and just staring out the window, "no-one likes me", "I am the worst...
I just wanted to respond to a reply you made in a different post.....just to let you know my difficult child takes Lamictal. The doses you have mentioned are very low & I'm not aware of doses that small. BUT, want to let you know my difficult child responds very well to this medication for her seizures. She is not...
We had our regularly scheduled psychiatrist appointment last night, and it was decided to add Lamictal to difficult child 2's cocktail.
I told him I'd been noticing that difficult child 2 has been having trouble sleeping at night -- often gets up and wanders around or complains of not being able to sleep until after 1am. He...
Each day seems to bring an increasingly finer-tuned picture for difficult child 2's mental landscape -- I am very encouraged by the Depakote.
psychiatrist said it was okay to add low dose stimulant now to address the focus, inattention, hyperactivity. We've got Daytrana on hand here for difficult child 1 so he told me to try a...
I'm not really sure what to do.
I had planned to take Seb off the Daytrana for the summer. Why? because I *thought* that without the pressure of having to perform academically, he'd do better to eat and sleep well (and the medication interferes with both his appetite and sleep).
This seemed...
difficult child 2 has had NO help from the Rozerem he started about a week and a half ago. He is still falling asleep after 11pm (going to his bed about 8:30-9:00pm) and sometimes up until 1am or later, despite getting up for school at 6:45am and typically taking a solid 10-12 hours of sleep when left...
and already I swear I see a small change in difficult child 2. He is more compliant and not as hyperactive or impulsive -- not to say that all his symptoms are resolved at all. It's just that he will actually do what I ask without tons of argument, and without having to nag forever -- just nag a little...
Well, this is day 3 of weaning my grandson off Zoloft. He has been taking it for about 9 months now, but was raised to 200 mg in March when he was hospitalized. Behavior went down the poop shoot from then on. Finally, last week, doctor decided to take him off zoloft. We have weaned him to...
So the psychiatrist decided we should try to take difficult child 2 off Lamictal because the neuro thought maybe with adding the Risperdal last month he wouldn't need it since he is also on Depakote ER. The Risperdal was reintroduced to address the shakiness from difficult child's Sydenham's chorea (atypical antipsychotics and...
