8 Year old boy with Dev Delays and ADHD

This is my first post here. I found you guys last night while doing a "Google" search for children with developmental delays. I have felt very isolated because of my sons issues, so it was comforting to see that I really am not all alone. I am not really sure what I am looking for in posting...

Haven't been here in a long time...

Hi Everyone - I have been on and off this forum for years but never consistently stay. I really don't know why that is because I definitely belong here. For some reason, I find it overwhelming. Anyway, my difficult child is my son Tommy. We first started seeing problems with him when he was about 18...

    Really rough night

This is so frustrating... putting it mildly. I am writing this after a 2 hr rage with TRex. I don't understand what happened. Her big sister was in town over the weekend and we expected an issue when she left, which we got. Got ugly Sunday night. A big part of the responsibility for that...

    worried about possible diagnoses

I have been thinking.....and thinking.....and thinking. I think everyone opinion and advice has me second guessing me going forward with therapist and neuro psychiatric assesment. the Social Worker keeps telling me that the neuro pysch will find something, that there is something definately wrong...

Second meeting with the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Met today for the second time with the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She still does not paint a pretty picture. Says the son has so much rage and anger, and is definitely ODD with depression. She said if things do not change for him, by the time he reaches adulthood there is no doubt he will end up in jail from...

I have no idea what is the right thing to do. We're scheduled for the UCLA neuro-psychiatric testing in June (hopeffuly sooner, I am calling weekly). Our son has now been off the Zoloft for 2 weeks. He is still much more aggressive, confrontational, active, and defiant. He's not having super...

    Help !! PLEASE!!

My 12 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD several years ago. Has been on Strattera for 4 years and that is helping greatly with the ADHD. We have tried several medications to help with the ODD but he always has side effects. He is currently on Depakote which up until now has helped. The...

    Update

Wee difficult child saw the neuro on Monday. They are weaning him off the Depakote. I know his psychiatric isn't going to like this, with the bipolar diagnosis, but part of the reason they put him on the depakote way back when was because it was also a mood stabilizer and I have never seen any mood stabilizing qualities...

I get to tell them "I Told You So"!!!

difficult child and I saw the new psychiatrist today. It was awesome. They guy is good with difficult child and knows his stuff which makes me very happy. Anyway, if you guys have been reading my other posts, you know I am in a fight to get difficult child's school to give up their heavy-handed "show him who's boss" mentality in response...

    mania?

Sooo...difficult child started back on a stimulant yesterday after about 5 weeks without and he is WIDE OPEN this morning, and has been since 4:30. By WIDE OPEN I mean a mile-a-minute-talking, making noises, running around the house, constant bugging us, bugging the dog, etc. acting like a nut. I can tell...

    Sad

I need to vent (it's my first time here). My heart is breaking for my 6 year old son. He was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD last year,....after trying to get one since he was 18months. I'm so frustrated that we keep getting doctors (I'm so sick of them) who dismiss me, like I don't know what I'm...

Hi! I kept coming across this forum every time I searched for advice regarding my difficult child so I figured it was time to jump in. My difficult child was diagnosed with Early Onset Bipolar Disorder less than two months before she turned 3 and it was not a diagnosis that was given easily. She has been unable to...

New Here, son prescribed Risperdal, can't bring myself to give it to him

Hello, This is my first post. My son is 5 years old. Has been in Occupational Therapist (OT) since age 3 for sensory issues. Took him to a behavioral therapist - he said he was Bipolar & ADHD during his first appointment. Had him evaluated by a Neuropsychologist right before he turned 5. Her diagnosis was: ADHD - combined...

    Pysc. appointment

We had an appointment with a psychrisist today. Actually this is the first time he has seen this type of doctor. The numerous docs we've seen have been specialist in other fields or psychologists. Needless to say it was and experience. I now everyone recommends seeing a neuropsyc but I have not...

    medications

We have tried a number of medications for difficult child. The psychiatrist's we have seen always go back to suggesting antipsychotics, but I'm hesitant for many reasons one of which is...don't you end up having to up the dose and up the dose and then add more medications to counteract the side effects and eventually it stops...
