    Battle Weary...

We have had a really rough week with Little Bear. He came back from a weekend with Biodad angrier than normal. He has been swearing, hitting, kicking, raging, being defient over EVERYTHING, scaring his little sister, etc. etc. We raised his depakote from 750mg to 1250mg last week, and his...

psychiatrist appointment FOR the difficult child's WITHOUT the difficult child's.

Okay, technically, it was for difficult child 2 since difficult child 1 had been pulled in last week because of his escalating beligerence at home, so he really didn't need to be there again so soon. And just when I thought difficult child 2 would be safe to take to the appointment since his fever was normal all morning and at...

    Lithium/lithobid question

I know some of the MS's contribute to weight issues, cognitive dulling/memory issues, and acne, all of which difficult child has problems with. Does anyone know of lithium/lithobid has any of these as a side effect? Depakote definitely did but he's been off that since last Fall.

    Niece's 3rd psychiatric. hospitalization

my niece is currently in the hospital on the psychiatric. floor due to a manic bi-polar episode. I told my brother and sister-in-law that I would take it to the "pros" and see if any of you have any advice. A little background, my niece is 23 years old, she always has been a difficult child, but always held down...

    The house that never sleeps!

I don't know what is in the air lately... difficult child 2 is up well after midnight for the second night in a row. Last night he was up until after 1:30am. Realized he never ate dinner (husband lets them fend for themselves when I'm not home to supervise) so he decides to get up and finish his leftover lunch...

    "Agitation" ???

Ok, I'm working thru all this, I think. Two questions: 1) psychiatrist always meets with both difficult child and me together so some things might be worded a little differently as a result. If psychiatrist says "watch for signs of agitation", does that mean that if difficult child is suddenly the epitemy of defiance, that...

Okay... so what were you saying about 8 weeks?

For Tegretol to take effect? I get it, I get it! Although difficult child 2 was very tired this morning, and he reported that he literally fell asleep in class before the morning recess, this evening he is BOUNCING off the walls. He said he's tired, but his mind is racing. Great. He also got two or...

    back from the doctors

Well we just got back from Abby's dr appointment. He was not all that impressed that they let her out of the hospital acting like she is. He added another medication Trileptal 300mg in the evening for 1 week and then add another tablet so she will be on a total of 600mg. He say's with the way...

    Seroquel side effect question

difficult child 2 is now taking 50mg Seroquel along with 5mg Zyprexa. He has told me - and it's very noticeable - that it makes his nose stuffy. As in, he has to breathe through his mouth. Has anyone else encountered this? Should this be a cause of concern?

    Tink...

First of all, my computer finally crashed and I am just now able to use it again. Sorry for my absence...and when I needed it the most too! So Tink ended up staying in the psychiatric hospital for a month. Last Monday they discharged her. I knew she wasn't ready. The very next day she went back in. She...

When they have to be hospitilized

I have a few questions regarding hospitilizations and when that decision is made etc. Little Bear is only 5yo so I have went through a great deal to avoid putting him inpatient. I am struggling with whether or not we can do this by ourselves. We had a very bad weekend with Little Bear and he...

    Ballooning Weight

I just hate this. Manster got his 4th grade pictures back and he is just so beautiful. But this is the first year that I look at his pictures and he looks like a "fat kid". It's addiction related. He uses food to sooth his anxiety. I feel like it's my fault. I should have had a lock on the...

Not such good news for our bi-polar difficult children

The FDA has just stopped short of black boxing 11 anti-seizure medications claiming that they increase the risk of suicidal ideation. They instead chose to include warnings and send information to all doctors about the potential risks. I think that more than a LOT our difficult children take these medications! I guess just...

    Thank You!

I just wanted to give a big Thank you to everyone that responded to my post "I think we are in crisis". request opinions on medications

I posted about this on Special Education to see how this might effect iep and now would like to get some opinions on whether or not you would do this. difficult child is on lithobid and this works as his first line mood stabilizer and takes care of mania and raging (at least we think it does to some degree). He's...

    BIP Suggestions for de-escalation

We will be meeting to modify difficult children behavior intervention plan tomorrow due to continued outbursts at school (no aggression just raging, arguing and non-compliance). The unfortunate thing is that a lot of the behaviors are his response to the school' classroom management 'system'. difficult child will get a...

    medication questions

difficult child is going to start taking Lithobid instead of generic Lithium. And she is starting Depakote ER (the 24 hour one) instead of the regular one. Now both of these cost more. Has anyone had any experience that these are actually better? The psychiatrist says they have a few less side effects and are...

difficult child home from second hospital stay tonight

Hey everyone! My SO is on her way home with difficult child as I type. This was his second hospital stay in about a month. I am hoping for the best and of course fearing the worst. (but not letting that fear squash the hope :winking:) We had a meeting today with a "family navigator" that we got in...
