I've posted before about difficult child 2's tendency to sleep a lot. He went to bed at 9pm last night and he's still sleeping (it's 12:30pm now). I woke him at 9am today to give him his morning Depakote, and I have to do it again in a minute for his afternoon Seroquel dose.
Part of his excessive...
but I'm not sure if it's really necessary yet? Or will I be circumventing an eventual unravelling that could take a long time to fix if I wait too long on this?
If you've been following our drama of late, we pulled Risperdal on Monday due to dystonic reaction. Prior to that, difficult child 2 was on...
for difficult child 2. So now, instead of 600mg Seroquel XR at night, and 100mg regular Seroquel at lunchtime, he's going to get 400mg XR at night and 300mg XR at lunch.
Now you see why I only give the school one week's worth of medications at a time? I figured this would happen.
So now I have to get another...

More and more, parents at wit's end are begging doctors to help them calm their aggressive children or control their kids with ADHD. More and more, doctors are prescribing powerful antipsychotic drugs.
In the past...
I was searching for information on rispiridol on the web this morning and came across a site that says Doctors say that psychiatric medications "cause" brain damage and do not help chemical imbalances.

What do you experienced parents know about this? I...
Something's gotta give!
I think husband and I are both ready to go back to work-right now the week ahead seems more like a punishment than a relief.-
difficult child is so 24/7 right now. He constantly needs to be around us and can't or won't do anything independently. The few times we have gone out-like to...
difficult child's school year began on Thursday. He honeymooned for exactly one day. We received a wonderful e-mail how he had no verbal or physical aggression the first morning nor the afternoon at the alternative school he is attending 1/2 days.
Day two we received an email that for no apparent reason...
about the medication they are going to try on difficult child. They are going to trial him on Clozapine which is an AP. It supposedly often works very well but because of the possible side effects it is used as a last resort. There are many possible side effects including a lowering of white blood cell count...
Alright. Here it is, in black and white. His diagnosis's are the following: Aspergers Syndrom, ADD inattentive type, mood disorder not otherwise specified, PTSD, ODD, and Anxiety. He had come out of a 5 week hospitalization where they weaned him off Seroquel onto Risperdahl. While her was in the psychiatric hospital, he went from a mens...
to listen better. Earlier this afternoon he asked if he could use the shredded mozzarella cheese to melt on his tortillas. I told him no and to throw it out (didn't realize it was still in the fridge). Of course, he didn't listen and ate it. Now he has been vomiting and I really think it is...
This week is difficult child's medication check... He's been on Abilify & tenex for forever... and he is maxed out on the dosages. He still has all the same issues, although the medications taken at night help him wind down for sleep at a decent hour, and i suppose they do curb some of his agressive behavior during the...
difficult child and I played tennis today and then walked home together (only about 1/2 mile but to difficult child it felt like 10 miles). It was a really nice time. On the way home he noticed the scars on my hand and asked what they were from. I told him the truth that they were from him when he was younger and...
took difficult child's medications by mistake this morning!!!! I had just finished getting both our medications ready and got myself a bottle of water. Had his medications in my hands and then in my mouth when I happened to look down to see my medications in a container right next to them-yikes!!
Thankfully I hadn't swallowed and...
Just wondering, I don't hear this mentioned much on the board but perhaps folks wouldn't bring it up if everything is OK.
If your difficult child is on psychiatric medications - does your psychiatrist or your pediatrician/pcp order any labs for your kiddo and if so which ones and how often?

We had the 2nd detention hearing today. The courts are releasing him on an electronic monitor. He will not be able to step outside unless he is going for court on Dec. 5th or to a Dr.s appointment. I do not see him being able to handle this. We will see how long before he violates.
My other thread disappeared somehow but needed to start a new one anyway since this morning there was more drama with SS. BM took him to school, and says he had a "panic attack" and refused to go in and was having a serious meltdown. He told her that he would not go into the school unless she...
Hi everyone - Just joined, looking for some advice and support.
For the past 7 months I have been living with my girlfriend and her 8 year old son, who I love and care for immensely. He is a sweet, handsome and intelligent boy, but I am insanely worried about the trajectory he is on.
He has been...
Okay, today was the first day we were able to go visit difficult child at the inpatient facility she was placed at earlier this week. I do not think the visit went well at all. She was nice and all, not mean or angry or in a bad mood, but my confidence level in the facility itself kinda plummetted and...
I highly recommend attending this FREE public event on mental health if you live anywhere near one of the lecture locations:

So we are trying to wean him off of Abilify and transfer him to Trileptal and Trileptal doesn't seem to be working quite as well.
His dystonia is down by a lot, but his mania is higher and I don't think it's too long before he assaults someone or melts down in school.
Tried for the first time...
