It must be sooo hard to let go, especially when it really is out of your control. We all like to think that "natural consequences" are the best way to go but the reality is so hard to face sometimes.

I cant believe the punishment for that is so harsh. In Canada he would end up with his license taken away, probably permanently, maybe a few weeks in jail, probably be able to serve his time on weekends so he could work during the week, or a small amount of time in a minumum security prison.

I agree with you and dont think that prison is the be all of the end all and solves all problems. He would probably be better off court ordered to a long term rehab/placement.
