Trayvon was walking home from the store. Period. Now he's dead. Period. Anything that happened in Trayvon's life prior to the moment he encountered George Zimmerman make no difference because George Zimmerman can have had
no knowledge whatsoever about that.
I've belonged to neighborhood watches in 3 neighborhoods in two states. Each has been trained by a police officer. What George Zimmerman was
not is a neighborhood watch captain - or anything else to do with a sanctioned neighborhood watch.
This is what they teach you when you form a sanctioned neighborhood watch, in no particular order:
- Keep an accurate phone list for neighbors;
- Know who your neighbors are and keep an eye out for their homes and property;
- Talk with your neighbors about who should and should not be at their homes;
- Do not try to critically observe more than you would normally see on your daily comings and goings, you will be unfamiliar with normal comings and goings;
- Make notes if you see something suspicious;
- If you are concerned for your safety or property contact the police;
- Never approach a stranger in your neighborhood if you suspect foul play;
- Patrols are unnecessary and not recommended;
- Should you choose to patrol your neighborhood, never patrol alone;
- Should you choose to patrol your neighborhood, bring a pen and paper, a cell phone, and a flashlight;
- Should you choose to patrol your neighborhood, wear a bright piece of clothing or reflective vest that identifies you as part of a neighborhood watch group;
- Never bring a weapon with you when checking on or patrolling your neighborhood.
There's more, but this is the basic stuff.
There's a very interesting statement from neighbors about Zimmerman from way back. He sent out emails to the people on his phone tree warning of suspicious black people in his mostly black neighborhood. His neighbors appreciated his keeping an eye on them, and were afraid to go outside because they
knew he was out there looking for black people.
Zimmerman was looking for suspicious black people, and since all black people are suspicious to Zimmerman, he found one. He'd called the police 47 times about suspicious black people and "they always get away". This time he made sure that didn't happen. I guess you can tell that I think George Zimmerman is such a bigot that he doesn't even
know he's a bigot. He thinks everyone should and does think that way. And he's going to get "Not Guilty" on all counts. Why?
They never treated the incident as a crime or a crime scene. The evidence was muddied and muddled and you can not prosecute if you have let your shooter go home and shower and make up his mind as to what his story is going to be. I'd like to see the Feds come after him. That probably won't happen either. You couldn't
pay me enough money to be in that town when he walks free. Florida is
crazy.
