I have found that program fascinating because it is so "even". I have seen a wide range of socio-economic groups, an almost even split of female/male addicts, different age ranges and very interestingly different addictions. All the people were in crisis. All of the people had caring support.

One aspect that I personally have found discombobulating
is that the successful people rarely return to their hometown.
Although most experts demean the idea of "geographic cures"
they change of location seems to go hand in hand with the change in lifestyle habits...particularly with the younger addicts.

The other obvious factor that makes the show different than most home generated interventions is the length of the stay that the addicts have at the facilities. Due to the cost of such treatment, many of us have felt lucky to get thirty days
for our addicts...and thirty days is not life-altering. DDD
